The Next Generation of Smart Manufacturing with Intelligent Technologies

Abstract

The manufacturing industry is witnessing a revolution of sorts, owing to the intersection of artificial intelligence, IIoT, robotics, and cloud and edge computing. The second phase of smart manufacturing is much more than automating single machines and processes. The idea is to create a manufacturing ecosystem that can be interconnected, data-driven, and capable of sensing and responding in real-time. With the development and evolution of these intelligent technologies, the boundaries of what could be achieved in manufacturing are being redefined (Figure 1).
